Skin care, know your skin type

Normal skin:
Is healthy looking with no spots or blemishes, it is neither dry or oily.

Normal skin tips:
Daily wash with facial wash or cleanser and facial scrub once a week and you will be set. Lucky you!!

Oily skin:
Is normally greasy and shiny especially on the nose, forehead and chin (the "T-zone"), it is prone to blackheads, spots and pimples, it is generally dull-looking and patchy.

Oily skin tips:
It is important to keep oily skin as clean as possible, use a facial wash twice a day. A facial scrub twice a week is essential and moisturise at least once a day, it may also be a good idea to use a face mask once a week and avoid harsh chemicals in products that could add to the problem (you are in the perfect place).

Dry skin:
Often feels tight and flaky and can look older than its age.

Dry skin tips:
Drink more water, about 1.5 litres a day should help, use a gentle face wash and only use a facial scrub once a week to remove the dead skin cells, but be careful not to over-scrub. A decent moisturiser will also help.

Sensitive skin:
Can react to many shaving and skincare products on the market with harsh chemicals in them so avoid at all costs (that's where we come in!) It can also be effected by food and fragrances and the weather.

Sensitive skin tips: Use natural products at all times avoiding harsh chemicals and perfumes, try to avoid soap as it can dry the skin, use gentle products designed for sensitive skin and always test new products on a small area of skin.

Combination skin:
Can show several signs from the above skin types, from oily to dry areas.

Combination skin tips:
Try different products on different areas or choose products designed for combination skin.

What should be included in your daily routine?

1) Cleanser/facial wash: Cleansers remove dirt, dead skin cells, excess oils and other everyday pollutants, this should be done once in the morning and once at night.

2) Shave products: To soften the facial hair and make it easier to cut resulting in less damage to the skin.

3) Toner: To soften the facial hair and make it easier to cut resulting in less damage to the skin.

4) After Shave: Restores moisture and soothes the skin after shaving.

5) Moisturiser: Prevents moisture from evaporating from the skin and promotes water retention.

Periodic use products

Eye cream: Reduces the appearance of lines, puffiness and dark circles under the eyes. Use as required.

Facial scrub: Removes dead skin cells and unclogs pores. Use 2 or 3 times a week depending on your skin type.

Face mask: Use once a week to cleanse pores, reduce oil build-up and improve skin tone and texture.

The Perfect Shave

Unfortunately unless you have a beard (and even beards need some upkeep) shaving will be part of your regular grooming routine. So how do you go about getting the best shave possible?

1) Shaving in the morning is best, when the skin is rested.

2) Shower first to help the soften the skin and facial hair.

3) Wash the area to be shaved for a clean and soft surface.

4) Apply your preferred shaving product. Always avoid harsh foaming chemicals (such as SLS's) as this can dry and damage the skin. Use your hands or a shaving brush to apply an even layer of your preferred products in circular motions, thus lifting and softening the hair.

5) Use hot water, as this will help soften the hair and also prolong the life of your blade.

6) Use a sharp razor to avoid pulling and snagging.

7) Always shave with the grain and use your other hand to pull the skin tight, this will help avoid razor burn and in growing hairs.

8) Use short strokes, not forgetting that the the grain will be different on the cheeks to the neck.

9) Rinse the blade after each stroke under hot water to improve performance.

10) After shaving, rinse face thoroughly with cold water to remove all residue of your shaving product.

11) Hydrate and soothe the skin with a moisturiser/toner or after shave balm to relieve any razor burn.
